The AOMG held its first Quality & Regulatory Workshop on Thursday, 5th October 2017 at Hotel Jen Penang. It was attended by 23 participants from member companies. Mr K S Qua, AOMG Advisor, welcomed participants to Penang and noted that two GHS workshops were held in Medan in 2014 and 2016 paving the way for this workshop. He noted that the 7th Process Safety Workshop was recently completed in Yogyakarta at the end of July this year. The two GHS workshops was run by Rosemina Bux of Emery Oleochemicals and although she was going to lead this one she was unable to attend. Diana Foong of KLK Oleo had agreed to provide the continuity.
The workshop started with EU REACh Regulations for non-EU companies. Diana Foong provided a very comprehensive presentation and took a lot of questions from participants throughout her presentation. After coffee break Sicila Susanto from PT Ecogreen Oleochemicals spoke on the Limits of Contaminants in Products.
After lunch Malathi Valaitham from Natural Oleochemicals made a presentation on An Overview of Food & Feed Safety (FSSC 22000 & GMP+B2). Then Leny Rivera from Chemrez Technologies talked about US FDA Food Safety Modernisation Act. As the two topics were closely related questions were at times answered by both speakers.
Comments from participants
“Very informative, very relevant and an eye-opener” – participant from Philippines
“Good job – Keep it up” – participant from Malaysia
Participants proposed to hold the second workshop next year in Indonesia and some of the suggested topics were IMDG, Cosmetic Regulations, Food Contact Regulations, Management of Chemicals in Products, Good Laboratory Practice, an oleochemical industry overview and API & Excipient Standards. Members and AOMG Advisor would look out for FDA training in the region and discuss with the AOMG Exco. The AOMG Technical Committee was asked to consider Round Robin Tests.
