The ASEAN Oleochemical Manufacturers Group 33rd Annual General Meeting was held at the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel on Monday 4th March 2019. As is the tradition it was held a day before the Bursa Malaysia Palm and Lauric Oils Price Outlook Conference & Exhibition 2019 (POC 2019).

The chairman Mr John Hall delivered his sanguine address to the group. He thanked the Technical Committee Chairman Mr Choong Wai Tuck for his continued leadership for at least the last four years.

In 2018 two successful technical workshops were held. The first in Medan was the well attended the 8th Technical Workshop which started with a day’s process safety study tour to the Unilever Oleochemicals Indonesia factory at Sei Mangkei, North Sumatra. The next day participants reviewed the three PSM elements covered in previous workshops. It was encouraging to see more experienced participants leading the revision.

The second was the 2nd Quality & Regulatory Workshop in Bandung. The day long workshop was led by our own member facilitators and an external facilitator who spoke on exporting to the USA.

Mr Hall also thanked Mr Choong for leading AOMG’s support for the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Mr Choong attended the RSPO conferences in Paris and Kota Kinabalu last year.

In November 2018 the Exco had deliberated on increasing the activities and profile of the AOMG and in line with this, at the AGM approved higher subscriptions and training fund.

The Exco members bid farewell to Ir Qua Kiat Seng who had served as Advisor for more than a decade. Ir Qua said the future looks exciting for AOMG and he wished it the very best.

Mr Choong said, “I have known Ir Qua for most of his tenure with AOMG and has been fortunate to work with him as the Technical Committee Chairman. I am privileged indeed to learn from him wisdom and his vast experience in the oleochemical industry that led to the success in running the workshops as well as championing certified sustainable palm oil uptake. On behalf of the technical committee I wish Ir Qua all the best going forward … Au revoir“.
