AOMG urges RSPO to make it the major platform for sustainable and traceable palm oils

Category: News Published: Wednesday, 27 August 2014

This was the key message of AOMG at the 2nd Oleochemicals Outlook held from 26 to 27 August 2014 in Jakarta. The event was organised by the Centre for Management Technology. Ir Qua Kiat Seng, AOMG Advisor, in his paper "RSPO - Moving towards sustainability and traceability" said that a dozen or more other platforms was diluting the momentum gained by RSPO after more than 10 years and RSPO must take steps to remain on top. In this direction he called for downstream users of oleochemicals to migrate from paper certificates to using physical RSPO certified palm oils. The easiest way to start is by purchasing and using Mass Balance products. He also requested RSPO to improve on the scarcity of physical sustainable and traceable Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) as PKO is an important raw material for oleochemical manufacturers.

In the same opening session that was chaired by Mr M C Menon, Director & Sales (Fatty Acids), Sinarmas Oleochemicals, Mr Steve Goei, Vice President/COO PT Socimas spoke on “Asia to drive growth to 2020 – Challenges and opportunities to grow an integrated and sustainable palm oil business”. He was followed by Mr Biswaranjan Sen, President Director, PT Unilever Oleochemical Indonesia whose paper was titled "Transforming the palm oil industry – Unilever’s perspective”. Mr Sen is also the Chairperson of RSPO.
