AOMG Quality & Regulatory Workshop 2018
22 October 2018 (Monday)
Ginger & Pepper Room, MR Floor,
Four Points by Sheraton Bandung, Indonesia
This year’s workshop was attended by 24 participants from 12 companies and 6 speakers, four of which are from member companies with one external. The morning programme was:-
1) Overview of the Oleochemical Industry by Ir Qua Kiat Seng, Advisor AOMG
2) Laboratory Test Method Validation by Mr Mak King Seng, IOI Acidchem Sdn Bhd
3) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) by Mr Edwin Wibisono, PT Ecogreen
A panel discussion on laboratory practices comprising Mr Mak and Mr Wibisono chaired by Puan Siti Rosemina Bux followed.
Mr Mak is very experienced and is a solid resource. We nicknamed him the Guru. It was agreed that companies whose laboratories are accredited to ISO 17025 will conduct in 2019 a proficiency testing (Round Robin Testing) which is an important element of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
Mr Wibisono brought clarity into GLP which has been much discussed but not fully understood. He gave a good comparison between GLP and ISO 17025. There is no need for our laboratories to be GLP accredited as it is test specific and use animals as their test subject.
In the afternoon the programme was:-
4) Exporting to the USA: Navigating US FDA Regulations by Mr Vijey Ananda, Registrar Corp
5) Overview of Chemical Regulations in Asia Pacific by Ms Diana Foong Poh Hwei, KLK Oleo
6) International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code for Oleochemicals by Puan Siti Rosemina Bux, Emery Oleochemicals (M) Sdn Bhd
The panel discussion on regulations that followed was chaired by Ms Hoo Lai May, Technical Manager at Palm-Oleo Sdn Bhd.
Mr Ananda gave an overview of the US FDA Regulations. Of immediate interest to our members is FDA Prior Notice and the training of a PCQI (preventive controls qualified individual) to meet the Food Safety Modernization Act for exports into the USA.
Ms Foong explained the list of inventories of chemical substances in the various countries in Asia Pacific. Puan Rosemina provided an overview of the provisions for shipping dangerous goods by sea and compared the IMDG code to GHS hazard classifications.
